Ukiyo-e “Japanese Woodblock Printing”

This workshop by Japanese Culture Center introduces students to Ukiyo‐e, a genre of Japanese woodblock prints with multiple carved woodblocks produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries. In this two-day workshop, participants will curve a simple design provided by the instructor to two postcard-size linoleum blocks, as well as learn the smooth coloring and color gradation technique unique to the process. The workshop will include presentations of traditional and contemporary Ukiyo‐e print and demonstration. Through this workshop, students will gain knowledge of the multiple block printing techniques that can explore their future concepts and ideas.
